THE ORIGIN OF DESPERADOS
When you think of Desperados, you probably picture an exotic Mexican beer brand, thanks to the addition of tequila to the beer.
Nothing could be further from the truth. Desperados is a beer brand that has been brewed since 1995 by Brasserie Fischer in France. The beer is brewed on the outskirts of Strasbourg and has since become part of the international brewing group Heineken.
Through an aggressive yet well-targeted marketing campaign, the French brewery managed to firmly establish the brand in a relatively short time. This success is also what drew the attention of Heineken.
DESPERADOS FLAVOURS
Desperados is a beer flavoured with tequila, giving it a slightly higher alcohol content of 5.9%. In addition to water, barley malt, corn, hop extract and sugar, a tequila aroma is added to the beer. This creates its distinctive bold yet subtly sweet taste.
Desperados is brewed as a lager beer. As a result, it has a milder base flavour that allows the tequila aromas to fully shine through. Desperados is available in clear glass bottles of 25 cl, 33 cl, 65 cl and 120 cl, as well as aluminium cans of 33 cl and 55 cl.
SERVING DESPERADOS
Just like Corona beer, Desperados is best enjoyed with a slice of lime in the neck of the bottle.
That’s why Desperados is rarely poured into a glass and is usually drunk straight from the bottle. The transparent bottle and bold label make this a tough yet practical choice.
TEQUILA FLAVOURS
In addition to Desperados Original, the French beer brand also offers Mojito (with mint and lime) and Lima (with cactus and lime). This creates a range of different Desperados flavours.
The Lima variant has a lower alcohol content of just 3%. As a result, it’s a lighter option with a much milder taste and therefore more accessible.
